Who sells A - Z everything?
Amazon! by far one of the largest and most well known (surely everyone on the planet?) online retail platforms. where it is possible to quite literally buy anything from A-Z, 24 hours a day. the ease, convenience and completely user friendly nature of Amazon has become synonymous with online shopping.
In fact, I personally find its almost second nature to use...need a smart speaker? check amazon! need to start Christmas shopping?.. check amazon! Not to mention their continual growth in different areas from Amazon Prime, Groceries, Pharmacy and Amazon Web Service cloud computing platform is nothing short of impressive. The recent Amazon share price of USD 3,169.25 has almost doubled in the last 12 months and Amazon itself one of the few companies worth Trillion plus.
So it would surely be top of the list for share to buy? There are further pros to consider with owning amazon shares consistently high sales (Amazon Prime Day shopping anyone? Smaller businesses selling on Amazon saw 60% increase in sales compared to last year) and constant innovation. The pandemic has certainly helped with online shopping the first choice and expecting to continue to influence consumer choice in the foreseeable future. Noting that cost pressure have also increased.
The downsides of investing too heavily in one type of investment and fairly expensive Amazon shares remains the lack of diversity it would bring. The alternative would be investing via funds that invest in a range of tech companies or directly investing on companies yourself to spread the level of risk and chances of good / bad within your portfolio.
The other prominent elements of amazon are the recent articles, stories and news reports relating to their values and ethics as a company. Various reports of minimal wage increases for warehouse staff exposed to increased health risks and various "Make Amazon Pay" protests across the world. Its difficult to tell the exact truth behind the reports especially considering the broad global nature and conflicting points of views but a full picture is always good and attaching Business insider links for all to reach their own conclusions. Would be great to know views from anyone considering buying amazon shares, happy shopping!
